Comprehensive Exam
Dental exams are important for overall health. Our complete exams include visual inspection of soft tissues
inside mouth for lesions and signs of oral cancer, periodontal screening including the measurement of space
between teeth and gums, visual inspection of all teeth for decay, and dental x-rays to identify any hidden
signs of cavities or disease.
All Porcelain Crowns
Teeth with large defective fillings or large areas of decay need full coverage restorations called crowns.
All porcelain crowns are made from pure ceramic and have no metal. These crowns have the natural appearance and
translucency of normal teeth. Using bonding technology developed in the 1980’s, we can form strong chemical
bonds between the ceramic crown and the underlying tooth.
Non-Metal Crowns or Fillings
All porcelain crowns and composite fillings are white/tooth-colored and natural in appearance. These
restorations utilize adhesive technology and they are permanently bonded to the underlying tooth structure.
These restorations look great and last a long time.
Sometimes amalgams (silver fillings) are placed. They represent a low percentage compared to
the number of tooth-colored fillings. Of course, we would love to give every patient the most aesthetic-looking
dental restorations. But there are some situations in which a composite filling does not work well. (Teeth in the
back of the mouth can be difficult to isolate. This hinders the composite filling-to-tooth chemical bond.)
Implants
Implants completely simulate a natural tooth. It involves a surgical procedure that replaces missing teeth. A
nickel titanium cylinder is placed and secured in the bone. This functions as “the root.” A porcelain crown
is then placed over the nickel titanium cylinder, giving the appearance of a natural tooth.
