5 Tips for Maintaining Brightness After a Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment

You took the plunge and invested in a brighter, whiter smile. You love how it looks!

You want to keep your smile looking just as good two years after your get it whitened as it does two days after the procedure. You’ve invested considerable time and money into a professional whitening, so protecting that beautiful smile is a priority.

Follow these five tips and keep your smile bright for years to come.

1. Watch what you eat and drink

You probably already know that coffee, tea, and red wine can stain your teeth. Did you know that some foods can, too? Tomato sauce, for example, can stain.

Basically, any food or drink that is likely to stain your shirt may also stain your teeth. That doesn’t mean that you should give up your favorites, though.

Take precautions and you can protect your smile and enjoy your marinara and red wine without worry.

2. Practice meticulous oral hygiene

You know that oral hygiene is important, but when it comes to protecting your professional whitening, it’s critical. Brush at least twice a day, and preferably after each meal.

You may want to discuss whether an electric toothbrush will be beneficial for you with Dr. Roach and our staff. Electric toothbrushes move differently than manual ones, and may help you maintain your smile.

Floss at least once a day, without fail. Flossing is one of the best and most widely neglected ways to protect your teeth.

Use mouthwash, and talk to our staff about which brand or type is likely to be best for you.

3. Drink more water

There are lots of health benefits to drinking more water, and one that you probably haven’t thought much about is that it helps protect your teeth. If you can’t brush your teeth after a meal, drink an extra glass or two of water.

Sipping on water throughout the day helps rinse away food debris, bacteria, and other potentially smile-dimming substances.

4. Don’t smoke

Smoking is bad for you and it can ruin your beautifully white smile!

5. Go to your regular dental appointments

Once your teeth are bright and your smile looks just the way you’ve always wanted, don’t stop coming in to see us!

Just as a professional whitening produces better results than at-home products, a professional cleaning gets your teeth cleaner than you can at home. Plus, regular checkups will ensure no tooth decay or other problems creep in to mess up your new smile.

Taking excellent care of your teeth is the best way to keep it looking bright and healthy. If you have any concerns about your newly whitened smile, or if you’d like further advice on how to keep it looking fabulous, book an appointment at Roach Family Dentistry by phone or online today.
